An Edinburgh runner is claiming a new record for the traverse of the Cuillin range on Skye.

Es Tressider has broken the record held by Cumbrian Andy Hyslop since 1994, completing the 12km route, including the Inaccessible Pinnacle on Sgurr Dearg, in 3h 17mins 28 secs, 14 minutes faster than Hyslop’s time.

The traverse, from Gars-bheinn to Sgurr nan Gillean summits, was achieved after Es bivvied on the ridge on the night of 3 May, so he could get an early start. His run was made while the ridge was in a temperature inversion, with fog and mist below and the peaks in sunshine.

Tressider had been thwarted in his previous attempts by poor weather. He had been trying for the record for ten years.
