The path to the Old Man of StorrOver-the-top warning signs on Skye are to be replaced, after complaints they were putting off walkers.

A report to Highland Council says that people passing along the path leading to the Old Man of Storr were confronted with a notice saying: You are strongly advised not to enter.

The access officer says a number of complaints have been received from the public that the sign, erected by a Scottish Executive department, would deter people walking to the area. The warning was erected because of the possibility of rockfalls from crags in the forest.

Now plans are afoot to replace the signs with a toned-down warning both at the forestry gate and the car park.

The Old Man of Storr is a spectacular 50m-high pinnacle of rock on the Trotternish peninsula. The Storr rises to 719m and has wide ranging views over the Sound of Raasay.

The Skye and Lochalsh Local Access Forum will consider the report at its meeting on Tuesday, 4 December.
