Discover the North York Moors

There is background on the landscape, history, inhabitants and wildlife of the North York Moors National Park, which covers 1,436 square km (554 square miles) of upland from the Vale of Mowbray in the East to the North Yorkshire coastline. Discover the North York Moors also has chapters on traditional industries such as jet mining and alum production, farming and moorland management and their effects on today’s landscape.

Author Roger Osborne said: “Writing and compiling the new guide has been a great experience for me. I have discovered so many hidden delights and wonders, and I’m sure local people and visitors will get a lot of pleasure from reading it.”

Jill Renney, information and interpretation manager for the North York Moors National Park Authority, said: “The national park is home to some amazing wildlife, archaeology, history and natural beauty and you can have it all at your fingertips in this colourful guide. With plenty to entertain both first timers and seasoned visitors it would make an ideal Christmas present for anyone who has a love of the outdoors.”

The guide costs £4.95 and is available by visiting the authority’s website. Shops within the national park are also stocking the book.
