Two men were airlifted from a Scottish mountain last night.
Members of the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team found the men on the side of The Cobbler, near Arrochar, in the Southern Highlands.
The Cobbler
A Royal Navy Sea King helicopter, which had been involved in the search for the pair, winched them to safety. The two had got lost while walking on the 884m (2,900ft) mountain, also known as Ben Arthur.
The men were described as cold, but otherwise unharmed. 25 members of the rescue team took part in the operation, in darkness and heavy rain. Rescuers said the men were not equipped for a night on the mountain.
They raised the alarm by ringing emergency services on their mobile phone. The men were given a medical check at the rescue team’s base and given hot drinks and food.
The Cobbler is named after its distinctive rocky outcrops which grace its summit, said to resemble a cobbler’s last. The climb on to the highest point involves a tricky, exposed scramble.

11 January 2008Weather can change so quickly at the top of any mountain. I'm just happy these guys got out safety before we had a couple of corpses on our hands.
Probably Mary
11 January 2008Hey No 1. Yes, these guys may have made an error of judgement, how many times do you make mistakes? Probably every time you open your mouth, tube...
?
12 January 2008I was on the Cobbler that day and the weather was the worst I've seen up there. Very poor visibility. Think No. 1 is being a bit unfair and wonder if she would have the same opinion if the walkers had died?
