The body of a man missing for a week in the Highlands was found today by a member of the public.

Cordell Thompson, a South African living in Reading, was reported missing by staff at the High Range Hotel, Aviemore, on Friday. He was recovered from a lochan south of the town on Monday afternoon.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances. Mr Thompson, a 50-year-old sales manager, had last been seen on Tuesday. His family described him as a keen walker.

His body was discovered in Lochan Deo, Rothiemurcus. His car had been located at nearby Loch an Eilean on Saturday.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team led a major search which, at times, included 14 search and rescue dogs and an RAF helicopter. Mr Thompson had been holidaying in the area.
