Police have named the climber who died in an accident on the northern corries of Cairn Gorm yesterday.

David Rainey, 32, of Royston, Hertfordshire, died in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, after being airlifted by RAF helicopter following a fall in Coire an t-Sneachda. Police said he fell ‘a considerable distance’.

Emergency services were called on Saturday morning about 11.40. Coire an t-Sneachda gained notoriety following the deaths of five mountaineers in the winter of 2006.
