A mountaineer died today after a fall in Torridon.

The unnamed woman was airlifted by Coastguard helicopter from Fuar Tholl, a 907m (2,976ft) corbett near Achnashellach in Glen Carron.

Members of Torridon Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) went to the aid of the woman this afternoon. She was taken to hospital on Skye but died of her injuries.

Fuar Tholl is only 2km (1 mile) from Sgorr Ruadh, where former Kintail MRT member Peter Grant died just over a month ago. Almost 100 people were involved in the search for the experienced 49-year-old climber.

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal at Dingwall.
