Grisedale: a 17-year-old woman was stretchered to safety

The 50-year-old man, from Peterlee in County Durham, suffered suspected head and hip injuries on the crag, on Gowbarrow overlooking Ullswater. Fourteen members of the Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team went to the climber’s aid.

Two of the team’s doctors tended to the man, along with an ambulance paramedic. He was treated at the scene and then carried by stretcher from the crag and driven to the waiting Pride of Cumbria air ambulance, which airlifted him to the Cumbria Infirmary, Carlisle.

Yesterday, the Patterdale team was called to help an injured 17-year-old woman who had injured her knee while walking in Grisedale. The team was alerted to her plight by a call around midnight. A team doctor examined the walker, whose injury had worsened.

She was carried by stretcher to the team’s Patterdale headquarters by eight rescuers. The incident ended at 3.45 this morning.
