“Details of the deceased will be issued once formal identification has taken place and all next of kin have been informed. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.”

Mr Davies’s Yorkshire terrier Tilly also died in the incident.

A major three-day search was mounted by Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, the RAF Kinloss MRT, Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a police dog handler. Tayside MRT, whose members were training in the area, also took part.
