Robin Davies, who died on Carn Bàn Mòr

The family of the man who died in the Cairngorms this week today issued a tribute to the walker.

Robin Davies’s body was found yesterday by an RAF search-and-rescue helicopter crew in Fuaran Diotach, a gully on the eastern edge of Carn Bàn Mòr, about a kilometre from its summit. His Yorkshire terrier Tilly also died on the mountain with him.

Confirming Mr Davies’s identity today, Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary also issued a statement on behalf of the walker’s family: “Robin loved the outdoors and the mountains and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

“We would like to acknowledge the enormous efforts made by all those who took part in the search in the Cairngorm mountains. We are very thankful to everyone concerned.

“We now have to come to terms with our loss and ask that our privacy be respected so we can grieve in peace.”

The operation to find Mr Davies began on Sunday when he was reported missing by his 18-year-old daughter, who lived with him in the Milton of Leyes area of Inverness. He had set off for a walk with his dog in the middle of the previous day.

Members of Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, the RAF Kinloss MRT, Tayside MRT, dogs from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a police search dog joined the hunt for him. Altogether, more than 70 people were involved in the search.

Mr Davies, 48, whose car was found in the Auchlean car park in Glenfeshie on Monday, worked for the CIS insurance company in Perth.
