The search is on for keen walkers or climbers who have computing skills, to help staff at the Manchester office of the British Mountaineering Council.

The council is looking for one or two volunteers to provide support to staff with the Windows operating system and other projects. The ideal candidates will have a firm grounding in IT as well as a grasp of mountaineering issues.

A spokesperson for the BMC said: “We’re looking for people who already have IT skills and can hit the ground running. As well as providing desktop support to our staff there are discrete projects that could be completed by people with SQL or networking experience.

“Ideally there are some climbers and walkers out there who are recent computer-science graduates, part-time or out-of-work IT support staff or IT consultants just itching to put their skills to use.”

If you think you can devote anything from half a day per month up to five days a week, you can email your CV with a covering letter to the BMC.

The BMC is the representative body for climbers, hillwalkers and mountaineers in England and Wales. Its office is in a converted church in West Didsbury in the South of Manchester.
