A walker who died after falling 50m (170ft) from a Snowdonia mountain at the weekend has been named.

Graham Bunn, 46, of Stockton on Tees, County Durham, fell from the summit of 747m (2,451ft) Yr Aran on Saturday.

He was with his wife Anne at the time and she clambered down to try to resuscitate her husband after his fall.

A passing walker heard her cries for help after about 45 minutes and he came to her aid, performing cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on Mr Bunn without success.

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team went to the scene and the walker was airlifted by an RAF Valley Sea King helicopter to the Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, but pronounced dead.

Yr Aran lies 2½km (1½ miles) south of Snowdon’s summit. Both Mr Bunn and his wife were experienced hillwalkers. The couple were described by rescuers as well equipped

An inquest into Mr Bunn’s death has been opened and adjourned by North-West Wales Coroner Dewi Pritchard-Jones
