David Gibson: 'great to see so many people at the event'

The head of Scotland’s mountaineering council hailed the nation’s first safety day dedicated to hillwalkers and mountaineers as a great success.

The Saturday event in Stirling attracted more than 700 visitors and drew a large number of experts, from mountain rescue teams to journalists and retailers.

David Gibson, chief officer of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland, said: “I want to say a big thank you to everyone who made Scotland’s Mountain Safety Day on Saturday such a success, especially those dedicated volunteers from Mountain Aid – without their hard work it just wouldn’t have happened.

“Thanks also to the presenters, mountain rescue teams, retailers and other organisations that made the event so memorable.

“It was great to see so many people at the event – more than 700 people were there on the day. MCofS staff and volunteers enjoyed meeting old and new members and we hope everyone had a great time.”

Mr Gibson said he hoped the event would be repeated.
