A man was airlifted from a hill after injuring his leg in a slip.

The 69-year-old was descending Dumgoyne in the Campsie Fells north of Glasgow when he injured himself.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at about 2.40pm yesterday, Sunday, by police and members went to the aid of the walker.

Team members treated the man at the scene, on the north-western side of the 427m (1,402ft) hill, which lies close to the route of the West Highland Way.

The injured walker was winched into a Royal Navy Sea King helicopter from HMS Gannet and flown to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for further treatment.

Lomond MRT members accompanied the man’s wife and dog back down the hill.

  • Keswick Mountain Rescue Team helped treat a mountain biker who broke his leg when he crashed after hitting an ice patch on a Lake District fell.

The 41-year-old was on the Glenderaterra valley track on Blencathra when the accident happened. The rescue team was alerted about 11.30am yesterday, Sunday, and helped ambulance service paramedics at the scene before stretchering the biker to a waiting air ambulance.

The man was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.
