The walker injured himself above Black Sail

A man attempting the Coast to Coast Walk was rescued after injuring his ankle.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted today at 2.50pm after the 19-year-old walker called for help.

The man reported his position as somewhere above Black Sail in Ennerdale.

Twenty-two team members took part in the rescue, and he was found by rescuers and escorted down to safety. He was then taken by the volunteer team members to Keswick.

The team was also alerted today to a pair of walkers from Peterborough who were lost in mist on High Stile, between Buttermere and Ennerdale.

The walkers eventually found a path down off the fell and made their way to safety without the rescuers’ help, after joining another group on the descent.
