SAIS assessors will provide information only at weekends

Mild conditions and the loss of much of the Scottish Highlands’ snow cover have brought the daily avalanche service to an end.

The sportscotland Avalanche Information Service will continue to provide a weekend report for the five areas it covers but daily forecasts of avalanche risk ended today.

SAIS said mountain observation and snowpack information will also be supplied on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in its five area blogs which cover Lochaber, Creag Meagaidh, Glencoe and the south and north Cairngorms.

The weekend only service will run from the coming weekend until Easter weekend, 8 April.

SAIS said: “We will continue to monitor the weather forecast situation and remain on standby in terms of offering a complete daily service.”
