A walker taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition was rescued after injuring himself on a fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the aid of the expeditioner after being alerted about 7.10pm today, Friday.

The walker slipped and injured his ankle while coming down from Robinson in the Lake District towards Buttermere Moss while on the first day of his trip.

Team members treated him at the scene before stretchering him down to the nearest road.

Sixteen members of the volunteer team were involved in the rescue.
