A walker was rescued after injuring herself in a fall on a Lakeland pass.

The 77-year-old from London suffered a suspected broken ankle in the incident while she was coming down from Scarth Gap, the popular route from Buttermere towards Haystacks.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at about 6.20pm today and 27 volunteers from the team took part in the rescue of the woman.

Team members and a doctor treated the walker at the scene and she was then stretchered down the fellside to an ambulance which was waiting at Gatesgarth.
