Three walkers were rescued after getting lost on a Lake District fell.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team used smartphone technology to find the trio who called for help on the Scafell Pike range on Friday evening.

The team was called out at 6.30pm when the walkers who were heading back to Seathwaite in Dunnerdale, got lost as darkness started to fall.

A team spokesperson said: “They were located quickly using smart phone technology below the Slight Side ridge of Scafell above Eskdale.

“A group of five team members went to walk the lost group back to Eskdale.

The volunteer rescue team pleaded with walkers to go equipped for the fells as the days shorten.

“The group did not a have suitable torch or map. At this time of year the nights are upon us very quickly. Please take a decent torch out with you,” the spokesperson said.

The rescue ended at 1.15am, nearly seven hours after the first alert.
