The woman was found on the Cam High Road walking towards Gearstones

Rescuers were called out to help a sponsored walker who was reported to be missing in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation was told the 35-year-old woman was lost in woodland on the Cam High Road track and was also had a severe medical condition.

After being alerted shortly before 4pm today, the team enlisted the help of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team in the search, as the woman’s location was not clear.

The Cam High Road is an old Roman road that now forms a route between Wensleydale and Ribblehead.

A Cave Rescue Organisation spokesperson said: “CRO responded and quickly located the casualty walking towards Gearstones, a bit tired but with no medical condition and not having been lost.

“She was transported back to Ribblehead.”

A handler and search dog from the team also took part.

A Swaledale MRT spokesperson added: “Shortly afterwards a further three members of the party were reported missing and further searches by SMRT and CRO Land Rovers were carried out, with the missing group being located at Beckermonds [in Langstrothdale].

“The group was returned to their destination by CRO.”

A spokesperson said: “While the team leader was investigating, the males turned up in a taxi to Langdale.”
