The Lake District authority is offering the free courses to outdoor leaders

National park bosses are turning to outdoor leaders to help them promote the attractions of the Lake District.

The authority is urging leaders to go back to the classroom for free training to help inspire the next generation of conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Lake District National Part Authority said successful courses have already taken place and the net is now widening to encourage as many activity providers as possible to make use of the two-hour instruction sessions.

Learning co-ordinator Anne Blackburn said it was an invaluable opportunity not just to help students, but for those inspiring them about the precious environment.

She said: “We have already held successful two-hour courses at Coniston and Borrowdale. The next is at the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole on 26 April.

“Thousands of people come to the Lake District every year, either on residential courses or holiday and for many it’s the beginning of a lifelong love of the area.

“If we can help leaders understand the issues, activities and practical ways of looking after the landscape, it augers well for the future.”

Anyone interested in joining the next session is asked to contact Ms Blackburn on 01539 792895.
