The Vapor helmet

The Vapor helmet

Black Diamond is claiming a record with its new Vapor helmet, which it says is the lightest on the market today.

The climbing helmet uses high-tech materials to keep the weight down to just 186g for its smaller version.

The brand also says the Vapor is the most comfortable and well ventilated helmet ever made.

The company said: “This ultra-light helmet features massive ventilation ports that allow maximum airflow without compromising on protection.

“Kevlar and carbon are sandwiched between co-moulded EPS foam and a polycarbonate shell to keep weight low without sacrificing the all-important protection factor.

“The Vapor’s ratcheting suspension tucks into the helmet for compact storage in a pack or haul bag, and it also has removable headlamp clips which secure headlamps on pre-dawn trips or when abseiling in the dark.

“This super lightweight helmet provides amazing low-profile protection, unparalleled ventilation and a secure a comfortable fit and proves that helmets are not just for multi-pitch traditional climbs or big alpine faces.

“It’s a go-anywhere cragging helmet.”

The Vapor comes in two sizes: S/M and M/L. The M/L size tips the scales at 199g and the new helmet is now on sale and retails at £120. More details are on the Black Diamond website.
