A walker has died after a fall in the Lake District.

The woman, who was with a group in Dungeon Ghyll, Great Langdale, fell from the path into the ravine.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out today and its 19 members were joined by colleagues from the Kendal team.

A search and rescue Sea King helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey also flew to the site.

A Langdale Ambleside spokesperson said: “Sadly, she died of her injuries.”

Mountain rescuers recovered the woman’s body and helped the rest of the group off the fell in an operation that lasted six hours.
