A walker was airlifted from a Lakeland fell after slipping and breaking his leg.

The 44-year-old from Manchester was walking above Banishead Quarry near Torver on Friday when the incident happened.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out and the Great North Air Ambulance also flew to the scene, south of the Old Man of Coniston.

The walker was treated by paramedics from the air ambulance and Coniston MRT members then stretchered him a short distance to the waiting helicopter.

He was flown to Furness General Hospital, Barrow in Furness, for further treatment.

The rescue involved 13 volunteer members of the Coniston team.
