Hart Crag, centre, scene of the rescue

A walker was stretchered off a Lakeland fell after injuring her ankle.

The woman was walking on Hart Crag on the Fairfield Horseshoe yesterday when she suffered the injury.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 2.45pm on Sunday and requested help from Kendal MRT due to the prospect of a long carry-off from the 822m (2,697ft) mountain.

She was treated at the scene and then stretchered off the fell in a rescue involving 21 Langdale Ambleside MRT members which lasted six hours.

The team was also alerted to two missing walkers in Langdale later in the afternoon.

The man and boy were reported overdue on a walk to Stickle Tarn and Jack’s Rake on Pavey Ark.

Ten team members were mobilised and were preparing to mount a search when the pair turned up in Langstrath.

The Langdale Ambleside team was also alerted about 6.20pm to the walker who had injured her ankle on the Stake Pass, but, as reported elsewhere, Keswick MRT members and RAF Valley MRT members who were in the area dealt with the callout.
