A teenager was airlifted from a Lake District mountain after injuring himself.

The 16-year-old boy was on Hay Stacks when he injured his knee just above the col at Scarth Gap.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 1.45pm and went to the walker’s aid.

Team members treated him at the scene then stretchered him to the waiting Great North Air Ambulance at Scarth Gap, which flew him to Gatesgarth Farm.

An ambulance then took him from there to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

Sixteen volunteers from Cockermouth MRT took part in the rescue.
