A Cumbrian Mountain Rescue Team is offering the chance to sample ales and food at an inaugural festival, with free camping for visitors.

The Beer ‘n’ Bangers Festival in Kirkby Stephen is a joint venture between the town’s mountain rescue team, local Scouts and Rotary Club.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a choice of more than 30 different beers, five types of cider plus six varieties of locally made sausages.

The weekend-long festival next month will feature live music from bands and singers and will be held next to the Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team’s base in Christian Head.

The team hopes to make the festival an annual event.

Free camping will be available in the field for people who have bought tickets for the evening events in the marquee.

Upper Eden Community First Responders will be providing a breakfast of bacon butties and tea and coffee in the mountain rescue base on Saturday and Sunday morning, plus tea and cakes on the Saturday afternoon.

During the Saturday afternoon, there will be family entertainment, including bouncy castles, a geocaching trail and the Kirkby Stephen Silver Band.

A Kirkby Stephen MRT spokesperson said: “Already over 30 local companies have provided sponsorship, with most agreeing to sponsor a barrel of beer at £95 each.

“It shows how local organisations can come together and organise an event for the good of their different causes, as well as putting on an enjoyable weekend’s entertainment for the whole community.”

The festival will take place from 6 to 8 September.

Tickets for the evening entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights are £5 a night, or £8 for both nights if bought in advance.

Information about the festival and how to get tickets by phone are on the festival website and there is also a Facebook page.
