A teenager was rescued from a Lake District fell after injuring herself.

The 17-year-old from Cheshire was walking near Sheffield Pike when she got stuck in mud and twisted her knee.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.20pm. In the meantime, her friends put up a tent on the hillside and put the girl in a tent to keep her warm.

Patterdale team members splinted her leg at the scene and she was then stretchered to a team vehicle which too her to the rescue base in Patterdale.

Members of her group then took her to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.

The 3½-hour rescue involved 14 volunteer team members.
