A climber was seriously injured after falling on a route in Snowdonia.

The man was climbing above Idwal Slabs on Glyder Fawr yesterday when he fell about 5m (16ft).

He suffered serious spinal injuries in the incident about 3.15pm on the Continuation Wall route.

An Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation spokesperson said: “Luckily he was with a member of a local mountain rescue team who was able to manage the scene and prepare the casualty for an air evacuation.”

A Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Valley flew to the scene and airlifted both men from the site.

The injured climber was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor for further treatment.
