Members of a mountain rescue team had a callout with a difference when they helped a colleague with a vital mission.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team had to spell out their message as team member Patrick Haley and his partner Katie Quinlan stood on a Peak District hillside.

The rescuers were among 36 people lying on the ground in Cave Dale near Castleton who formed the words ‘marry me?’ to support Mr Haley – known as Patch – as he proposed to his partner.

Peter Jozefczyk of Glossop MRT said: “What Patrick’s partner Katie thought was just a weekend walk in Castleton turned out to be one the best surprises she ever had.

“As they got to the edge at Cave Dale, Patrick got down on one knee and asked Katie to marry him, with team members, friends and family at the bottom of Cave Dale spelling out marry me?”

Mr Haley and his team colleagues were relieved to hear Ms Quinlan accept his proposal.
