The rescue team's area includes the mountains of Glencoe

A mountain rescue team faces having to fork out more than £5,000 to replace a quad bike stolen in a break-in.

The machine was among items stolen from Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team’s stores by intruders over two nights.

The team uses the quad to carry stretchers on certain hills in its area, and to service hillside radio masts.

The amount represents the difference between what the team expects to get from its insurers and the cost of buying a new vehicle.

The thieves also stole a pump for the team’s inflatable rescue boat, but were thwarted in their attempts to take the boat’s outboard motor because it was secured.

Specialist gear including a radio, anchor and safety equipment was among the thieves’ £11,500 haul last month.

Team leader John Grieve said the stolen items were not kept at the team’s main Glencoe village base, but at a building at the nearby Glencoe House hotel.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
