A walker has been flown to hospital after falling 400ft from a Highland ridge.

The man was on Forcan Ridge in Glen Shiel when he fell about 120m from the scrambling route this afternoon.

Police in Portree on the Isle of Skye alerted both Skye and Kintail Mountain Rescue Teams who were joined in the operation by a Coastguard helicopter from Stornoway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The injured man was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital [in Inverness] where his condition is currently unknown.

“There are no further details at this time.”

Forcan Ridge is a classic exposed scrambling route on Sgùrr nan Forcan, often traversed on the ascent of The Saddle.
