A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fell after falling and injuring his leg.

Cockermouth and Keswick Mountain Rescue Teams were alerted yesterday after the incident near Great Round How, between Hay Stacks and Honister.

A spokesperson for the Cockermouth team, which was called out about 2.35pm, said the walker’s position was pinpointed after they were contacted by mobile phone.

A Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland airlifted the man, who had badly injured his knee cap, to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for treatment.

The rescue involved 14 volunteer members of Cockermouth MRT.
