A mountain biker was rescued after crashing on a trail in the North York Moors national park.

Ambulance staff asked for help from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team on Sunday after the 50-year-old cyclist came off his machine on Thimbleby Moor above Square Corner, near Osmotherley.

The team was called out at 5.15pm and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance also flew to the scene.

A Cleveland MRT spokesperson said: “We had just finished a hard day with one of our fundraising events and immediately sent our Land Rovers to the moor above Square Corner.

“The biker was located, and between us and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was transported to the waiting county ambulance at Square Corner.

“This was an excellent example again of inter-agency co-operation between ourselves, the air ambulance and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.”

The rescue involved 23 volunteers from the Cleveland team.
