The man suffered a suspected broken ankle on High Dodd

A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fell after suffering a suspected broken ankle in a slip.

The man was walking with his partner on High Dodd above Ullswater today when he injured himself.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.10pm and requested help from colleagues in the Penrith team.

Rescuers also asked for help from the Blackpool-based North West Air Ambulance.

The injured walker was treated at the scene on the 501m (1,644ft) fell, north-east of Place Fell in an operation lasting four hours and involving 12 Patterdale and six Penrith MRT members.

The man was then flown to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.
