A walker was airlifted to hospital after collapsing on a west Cumbria cycleway.

The 67-year-old man from Egremont was walking on the former railway route between Frizington and Winder on Sunday when he got into difficulties.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out shortly before 3pm and the Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene to help the ambulance crew dealing with the incident.

Ambulance paramedics and colleagues from the air ambulance treated the walker at the site and then mountain rescue team members stretchered him to the helicopter.

The man was then flown to Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, for further treatment.

The rescue involved 25 Cockermouth MRT members.
