The climber suffered head injuries in the fall from Pavey Ark

A climber was airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries after falling in the Lake District.

Police were alerted today after the man, in his late 30s, fell while climbing on Pavey Ark in Great Langdale.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 2.40pm and a Royal Navy Sea King search and rescue helicopter and an air ambulance both flew to the scene.

The climber was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

A Cumbria Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police are making enquiries, however the incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time.”

Although best known for its grade-one scramble route Jack’s Rake, Pavey Ark also has 70 graded climbing routes, ranging from Moderate to E8.
