A search was launched after a nine-year-old boy went missing while hillwalking on a Lakeland fell.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 2.35pm today after the boy, from Northamptonshire, became separated from his family group on Carling Knott above Loweswater.

A search involving 18 volunteers from the team was organised and the boy was found with his grandparents near High Nook Farm.

A team spokesperson said: “The rest of his family walked back down to meet up at the Kirkstile Inn.”
