A walker’s companion had to run to a farm to raise the alarm after the friend fell and broke her ankle on a Snowdonia hill.

The 58-year-old from Cheshire had tackled the Cwm Croesor Horseshoe, summiting Cnicht, and was descending from Moelwyn Mawr when she slipped on wet ground and injured herself.

An Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team spokesperson said: “Unable to move and without mobile phone reception, her friend ran down to a nearby farm to raise the alarm.”

The team was alerted about 6.25pm today and members arrived at the site shortly after 7pm.

The spokesperson said: “The female was administered Entonox to assist with the pain, prior to being placed in a stretcher and evacuated down the hillside to a waiting ambulance.”

The rescue ended about 7.30pm and involved 11 volunteer team members.
