The trio got lost on Yewdale Fells

Three badly prepared walkers had to be rescued after getting lost in the dark on the fells above Coniston.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out at twenty past midnight after the group called for help.

A team spokesperson said: “The trio from Leicester who were staying in the area were unable to give much information to rescuers who subsequently managed to pinpoint their position by use of IT-based location techniques.

“The group was found unhurt in difficult terrain in the Yewdale Fells and taken to safer ground before being escorted off the hill.

“None of the men were equipped for the fells.”

The three-hour rescue involved 13 volunteer members of the team.
