A walker was injured after falling on Great Gable’s southern face.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 11.20am on Thursday after a report that a man had been knocked out and injured his wrist near Napes Needle.

A team spokesperson said: “Given the location and reported injuries an RAF Sea King helicopter was requested.

“The team and helicopter arrived at the same time to find the injured man near the Climbers’ Traverse path on the Great Hell Gate scree slope.

“He was assessed by the winchman and mountain rescue team medic and after his cut was dressed it was decided on balance it was better to walk the injured man off the fell rather than risk a winch from the cragside.”

The rescue involved 18 volunteer team members and the crew from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland, and lasted more than four hours.
