A man was rescued after injuring himself at a Borrowdale beauty spot.

The 44-year-old slipped on the edge of Ashness Gill near Ashness Bridge today, suffering a severe ankle injury.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out shortly after midday and gave the man pain relief at the scene.

A team paramedic then realigned the man’s ankle to prevent the injury worsening, before the leg was splinted and the man stretchered by the team up to the road.

An ambulance then took him for further treatment at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The 1½-hour rescue involved 12 volunteers from Keswick MRT.
