Buttermere, scene of the rescue

A woman was rescued after injuring herself in a fall while walking on a Lake District path.

The 79-year-old from Wigan suffered cuts to her head and hand when she fell on the route beside Buttermere today.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out and the Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene about midday.

Members of the rescue team and the crew of the air ambulance treated the woman at the site and she was then taken by ambulance to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven for further treatment.
