A former judge has been re-elected head of a national park authority.

Retired barrister and circuit judge Peter Charlesworth will chair the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for the coming year.

Mr Charlesworth is also a trustee and a chairman of the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, a member of the council of management of the Yorkshire Dales Society and chairman of the Rugby League disciplinary panel.

The authority’s planning committee chairman Harold Brown, a farmer from Grinton in Swaledale, was elected deputy chairman for a second term.

Ian McPherson and Brenda Gray were also appointed to the authority.
