Police have confirmed that the body of a man found at the foot of a Lakeland fell last month was that of missing Blackpool man Chay Lancaster.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out on Monday 28 July after a walker found the body at the foot of a crag on Blake Rigg, between Great and Little Langdale.

Lancashire Constabulary said the 41-year-old father of three, who disappeared in September 2010, was believed to have had an accident while walking in the Lake District.

Five members of the mountain rescue team were involved in the recovery of Mr Lancaster’s body in an operation that took five hours.

A police spokesperson said: “The body has sadly been formally identified as Chay Lancaster and has now been returned to the family. Our thoughts remain with them.

“There are no suspicious circumstances relating to the death and this will now be the subject of a coroner’s inquest.”
