Patterdale MRT's rescue boat was launched after the Coastguard alerted the team

Mountain rescuers were called out to help two canoeists who had capsized on Ullswater.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by the Coastguard, which is responsible for rescues on the lake, after reports that two people were in difficulties in the water.

The rescue team launched its boat within 10 minutes of being called out, about 1.20pm today, and members made their way to the reported location of the paddlers.

A Patterdale MRT spokesperson said: “While the team were en route the two people were rescued by the Lake District national park ranger boat and taken back to their campsite.

“When the team arrived they assessed the pair and found them to be uninjured but cold.”
