A walker was airlifted from a peak in the Kilpatrick Hills after suffering a broken ankle.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 3.35pm yesterday after being alerted by police to the incident at The Whangie on Auchineden Hill.

Team members and paramedics treated the injured walker at the scene before a Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth winched the casualty from the hillside and flew the walker to hospital for further treatment.

The rescue involved 14 team volunteers.

The Whangie is a 10m (33ft) geological cleft near the summit of the 357m (1,171ft) hill, west of Strathblane.
