The walkers reported they were 'stuck' in high winds on Helvellyn Lower Man

Two men called for help after they reported being ‘stuck’ in high winds on a Lake District fell.

The pair rang 999 from Lower Man, an outlier of Helvellyn, today, to say they were stranded in strong winds on the mountain.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 2pm and volunteer team members began the ascent to the site, a kilometre north-west of the 950m (3,117ft) summit of Helvellyn.

A team spokesperson said: “Five members of the team were making their way to the ‘stranded party, in atrocious weather conditions, via Brown Cove when the call came through that the wind had abated and the two males had made their own way off the fell towards Thirlmere.”

The team members were called out for 1½ hours.
