A walker was airlifted to hospital after injuring himself on a remote fell in the North of the Lake District.

The 56-year-old was walking with his wife at Trusmadoor in the Uldale Fells north of Skiddaw.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 1.20pm on Saturday after the man suffered a serious ankle injury.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “The team despatched a vehicle with five members, and a further eight followed up.

“The casualty site was a considerable distance from the road, but fortunately a Sea King from RAF Leconfield was able to attend. The casualty and his wife were winched aboard, and flown to the Cumberland Infirmary.”

The 3½-hour rescue involved 16 team members.

On Sunday, the team was called out to a woman who slipped and fell, aggravating a previous back injury.

The 26-year-old was walking with friends on High Rigg when the accident happened.

The team spokesperson said: “There were plenty of team members responding, so two vehicles were despatched to St Johns in the Vale church, and the rescuers made their way up to the summit.

“The casualty was given analgesia, and then splinted in a vacuum mattress to prevent further injury. She was then stretchered down to an ambulance and taken on to the Cumberland Infirmary for further treatment.”

Twenty-one volunteers from Keswick MRT took part in the two-hour rescue.
