The walkers were found close to the top of High Stile

Two walkers had to be rescued after getting lost on a Lake District mountain.

The pair became disoriented in thick cloud and bad weather on the Red Pike range above Buttermere today, and called for help.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 3.40pm and used the Sarloc smartphone system to locate the lost walkers.

A team spokesperson said: “Team members located the fellwalkers just off the summit of High Stile and walked them to the safety of Buttermere village where they were staying.”

The rescue involved 27 volunteers from Cockermouth MRT.
